Churchill House Inn is a great starting point for winter adventures. For starters, cross-country skiiers and snowshoers have access to several National Forest trails right from our front doorstep. Many more, including the Catamount Trail, are just minutes away. For skating or ice fishing there's Lake Dunmore and Silver Lake. For downhill skiers, Middlebury Snow Bowl is a half hour by car, Pico and Killington, 45 minutes, Sugarbush and Mad River Glen or Okemo an hour. Ski them all from our central location.
We can also help you arrange inn to inn skiing vacations throughout the region. Just send us an e-mail and we will send you the details.
Country Inns Along the Trail provides three to ten day packages for travelers who want to ski at a number of inns.
A flood in August 2008 did serious damage to the trail systems of the Green Mountain National Forest, particularly to the many bridges on the Leicester Hollow Trail, which was winter groomed and very popular for cross-country skiing. The Forest Service has assessed the situation and begun restorative action to bring the trail back into service. For winter 2012, snowshoeing is possible from the inn, but skiing will have do be done at the touring centers or the higher backcountry Catamount Trail nearby.
