The piano course is offered by Seth Hopkins, a seasoned church organist/choir director and student of Mary Lou Tucker and the late Ron Harry, a Juliard graduate and official organist of the Boston Garden (TD Banknorth Garden). Additionally, Seth briefly studied classical Organ at Atlantic Union College's Thayer Conservatory. Seth was National Organist to the National Grange Convention in 1997. Seth has taught piano to students as young as 7 and seen some delightful accomplishment in some of his students. In contrast to Olya's classical technique, Seth was taught on and has been successful with a more internalized approach to music, leading to tremendous flexibility for him as a musician/performer. This approach, while grounded in sound music theory, can allow for development of spontaneity and emotion in a pianist and lead to expressive performances of a diverse repertoire. Sunday mornings after breakfast, Seth heads to Rutland, where he is organist for the First Baptist Church, with its mighty 1916 Hook & Hastings/Andover organ of over 1200 pipes in 24 ranks.
